A This and That Post....

A beautiful transition week here in W. Pa. Just two days ago it was 86 degrees, Now it is 57! Yikes! I am putting up a bit of Fall decor, lighting the candles, and starting a new yarn project, not sure if I will crochet or attempt to knit again. Jury is out on that one.

This summer I expanded my potted succulents, they did not disappoint. They grew, expanded, and greeted me almost daily with a little fairy mushroom. Easy to grow and maintain, they graced a table on the back patio.

See the white cored cutie on the left of the screen? That one has really taken off, I need to get some other photos before DIL takes the pots to over winter in her green house

This week has been a busy one, wrapping up some outdoor work, making some plans for Winter sewing and a few days of illness. I have not experienced the big V since November 1999. Well, let me tell you that, for me, stomach issues are the worst. They always end up being major and wipe me out for a few days. My word, no fun. I am not sure what caused this, I think it is a reaction to an herbal supplement that interacted with my night heart meds. Won't do that again.

No excuses though. I received my shipment from Vogue fabrics, washed it all, and spent some time reviewing how I had planned to use it.

I have mentioned in the past that Style Arc patterns often have good sales. Based in Australia, this company offers classic patterns but utilizes some modern and trendy touches. I wanted a set-in sleeve t-shirt, simple lines, easily altered, and this one fits that criteria.

I am still quilting, always will I think, but now I am dealing with updating clothing. I am not thrilled with online shopping and walking the malls just is not happening anymore. Of course, there are a few online retailers who offer quality fabrics and construction, but this t-shirt, exact same lines in a decent weight jersey was, control required here, $86.00! Seriously, that will not happen. In addition, the manufacturer has had some issues. I can do better.

The fabrics; first on the left is a white poly/modal knit, second is a black jersey. I will probably change my plans for that one, and last is a paisley poly jersey with another blend, I forget. I will check my catalog before using it and share that with you. Vogue Fabrics Catalogs are a lifesaver for a garment sewer. It is mailed with swatches seasonally and also for holiday etc.

Their online website and shop, HERE. I subscribed in the late '80's and through the 1990's. It was good then but much better now. With the closing of other fabric sellers, this is a way to maintain one's sewing passion!

Speaking of returning to garment sewing, I happened upon a YouTube lady who has done much the same thing. She works full-time as an attorney and missed sewing for many years. She has cataloged her journey, her return in these videos has been very entertaining, and I see myself in many of her issues. While her style is very different, and she is probably 20 years younger, I can relate. If you are interested, I have added a link to one of her most recent videos where she challenged herself to sew at least 30 minutes per day. I can really relate to that, I didn't do the challenge with her as I had intended, I forgot! Too much going on, too many plates in the air, and I just plain forgot! HERE.

I am washing and preparing the summer quilts for winter storage. I usually use this guest room bed, fold the sides in, then roll the quilt. The very delicate vintage quilts have been stored this way without damage. This will be popped into a muslin case (like a pillowcase) and then into a closet. This quilt was made several years ago, has been well-used and only required on small seam repair of about 1.5 inches.

I can't remember the name of the pattern, It was made with 10 inch pre-cuts, cut diagonally then framed with pre-cut jelly roll strips...I think. And that dear threaded friends is the end for the second full week of October 2025. Wow, time flies! Be well, stitch happily, and savor every day.
