October, The Season of Transition-

Hello sewing friends. I hope the week has been good to you, and you have had the opportunity to savor the elements of nature that are gifted to us at this time of year.

The stunning colors of Fall, beautiful but likely a little dull this year due to drought. My field trip last week was to Stahl's Mountain Farm, They originally were famous for their potato's but now many other items are offered from a wonderful selection of apples, squashes, onions, etc. Photo of fresh produceIf this photo disappears, which often happens, this is the website link for locals,  HERE. It provides all the information about products, hours, and directions. This is my third time visiting here. There is an interesting theory among several long-time customers who claim that the soil on this mountain has health benefits. So far, not working for me, but I picked up some little white creamers, you just never know! *my apologies to the lady in the photo, after I clicked and realized she was on there, I couldn't find her to ask her permission.

The Garden: My basil and chives are still going strong. I plan to trim back the basil, root it and try to keep it going indoors. A lady mentioned the other day that she does this successfully by using garden soil rather than potting soil. I have tried this with iffy results, but I think the light source was the problem. This time it will go in the laundry room window. It has direct souther light even in winter. The gardener will pull the last of the annual flowers this week, some are struggling, others are still going despite the damage from the wildlife.

Soup season has returned as well. I have always made soup on Mondays. I have been following a loose schedule for decades. That way, the kids would not ask over and over, what's for dinner? This is Autumn Soup. A recipe my mother used at her church for congregation dinners, it has been a quick and easy favorite here for years. I have that recipe and others on the now limited Kitchen Chronicles blog. It is still there, but I am no longer able to access the control panel, so there have been no new additions.   A safe link to that blog, HERE!  I may attempt to revive that one too. Patience will be required.

Quilt story of the week. Years ago we were fortunate to have a Quilt and Sewing Expo in our city. Long gone now, I have memories here and there to document my attendance. This post chronicles that experience from 2012. A little post about the show and how you might show our works of art (insert smile, never been my forte) Beautiful Artistic Quilts from 2012, HERE.

Well, dear stitching friends, time to get to work and fuss with a blouse pattern I cut out a couple of months ago....we all likely know how that goes, and I will be discussing that soon. I was tired, it was late in the day, my slippery fabric was moving all around the table. Long story....

Take care, always use a fresh needle per project, and don't forget to clean that lint out of your bobbin case. It will make that machine sing. Toodles.
